I’m not much of a basketball fan but this year I was absorbed in “March Madness.” It was a thrill to watch a few underdog teams surprise the nation by advancing in the tournament much further than expected. Propelled by their passion and teamwork, and a little coaching, they did amazing things and captured our hearts.
That got me thinking about what we Marywood Alumni could accomplish if we exhibited the same teamwork and passion. As Association President I play the role of coach - can I rally this alumni team to turn out in record numbers for the 2013 Marywood Reunion Weekend on May 31, June 1-2? We have a great game plan (schedule of events) but you have the ball, Team – it’s up to you. Do you have the passion to be at Marywood for Reunion Weekend 2013?
At this point in the game, we still have time to reach this year's alumni fundraising participation goal of 21% or 1,100 alumni gifts. It’s not just a championship trophy at stake here – we still have an opportunity to provide financial aid for students and to help grow the Marywood alumni network. How will our alumni team perform under pressure? Will your adrenaline kick in? Will you make a contribution to put us on top? It doesn’t take a three pointer – we’ll settle for two or one. We just need every team member to do her or his part, to take that shot, and make a gift.
Lastly, every team requires leaders – and we truly need more leaders on the court, displaying their passion and helping to get things done. Will you become an engaged alumni volunteer? Contact the Alumni Office today to sign up for the team.
While that recent excitement of “March Madness” only occurs for a limited time each year, the things we Marywood Alumni can accomplish with a little bit of teamwork and passion can last a lifetime. Please get engaged and help Marywood Lead on.
