More than 200 family and friends turned out for the 15th Annual Mary Beth's Day at the Races on Sunday May 26, 2013 at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, NJ.
The picnic is held yearly in memory of Mary Elizabeth Salmon '95 who passed away tragically as a result of an automobile accident several years ago. The event is sponsored by Bill and Regina Salmon and family (Mary Beth's parents) with proceeds going to the Mary Elizabeth Salmon Scholarship at Marywood University.
The Scholarship was established as a lasting tribute of their daughter in 2002 and is awarded yearly to an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Environmental Sciences based upon financial need.
Mary Beth Salmon was a bright, energetic young woman, who had an unabashed love for sports, and unlimited capacity for making friends. An outstanding student athlete, she was a stand-out on the Pacers varsity teams in two sports: field hockey for four years and softball for two. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. Mary Beth was the first woman to secure a position with the Hawley Area Authority Treatment Facility located in Hawley, PA. The Salmons' established the Scholarship due to how important Marywood was to their daughter.
